Biography

Andrea Götsch comes from South Tyrol and is the artistic director of the Ehrphilharmonie Vienna. As a young, up-and-coming conductor, she leads concerts of various orchestras, primarily in Austria, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Korea. Since 2019, she has been a clarinetist with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, and she has also temporarily served as an elected committee member of the Philharmonic Association. In addition, she performs internationally as a soloist and has given concerts with the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, the Recreation Orchestra, I Virtuosi Italiani, the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina, and the Südtirol Filarmonica, among others. Andrea Götsch is a prizewinner of national and international competitions and a founding member of several ensembles, including “Divinerinnen”, “Clarinet & Strings Vienna”, and “La Philharmonica”; she also appears in a wide variety of other chamber music formations. Numerous radio, CD, and television recordings exist. Since 2020 she has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), and in 2025 she also taught at the Mozarteum University Salzburg. As a composer, she has already fulfilled several commissions; as a football player, she currently plays both for the Vienna Philharmonic’s football club and in the Austrian Women’s Bundesliga for the Wiener Sport-Club.

Her first clarinet lessons were with Christian Laimer, and she completed her studies, all with distinction, at institutions including the Conservatory of Bolzano (Roberto Gander), Mozarteum Salzburg (Alois Brandhofer, Dario Zingales), Hochschule für Musik in Nuremberg (Thomas Holzmann), and in Vienna at the Music and Arts Private University (Reinhard Wieser, Alexander Neubauer) and the University of Music and Performing Arts (Johann Hindler, Christoph Zimper). She studies conducting with Prof. Sophie Rachlin and has assisted and learned from renowned conductors such as Cornelius Meister and Andrés Orozco Estrada. Her career has been further enriched by studies in psychology and philosophy, music education, and mental training.

CONDUCTOR

Andrea Götsch made her conducting debut in 2023 with the anniversary concert of the Musikfreunde in South Tyrol; just one year later, she had already appeared several times with the Vienna Mozart Orchestra in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein and taken over as Artistic Director of the Ehrphilharmonie Wien. In 2025, she conducted, amongst others, the Daegu Symphony Orchestra in Korea with Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony and an opera gala, the Ybbsfeld Orchestra at the Autumn Days in Lower Austria, the Eisenstadt University Orchestra, and the Maria Stuarda opera camp in Salzburg, and gave concerts with the Mozart Orchestra in Vienna, Bulgaria and Croatia. This year she also travelled to Turkey with the latter; in Salzburg, the opera camp Ariadne auf Naxos is on the programme, followed by performances at the Haydn Festival in Hainburg, with the Orchester der Musikfreunde in South Tyrol, and with the Wiener Concert Verein both in Vienna and in Switzerland. Exciting engagements await her in 2027 with the Loh Orchestra in Sondershausen and at the Theater Nordhausen, with the Recreation Orchestra in Graz, the Györ Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lower Austria Youth Symphony Orchestra in Grafenegg, and with the Ehrphilharmonie Wien, including guest performances at the Liszt Centre in Raiding and in various cities in China.

She assists and learns from outstanding conductors such as Cornelius Meister (e.g. at the NDR Hannover Klassik Openair in 2024) and Andrés Orozco Estrada (e.g. with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai in Turin in 2025). She receives regular tuition from Prof. Sophie Rachlin; she has also attended workshops with Herbert Böck, Daniel Meyer and Marc Piollet, and has received coaching from Oliver von Dohnányi, Philippe Auguin, Eduard Kutrowatz and Christian Laimer.

SOCCER PLAYER

Andrea Götsch doesn’t only stay on the ball on stage but also on the field. Since early childhood, the Vienna Philharmonic clarinetist has played football with notable success. As a defender for the Wiener Sport-Club (WSC), she has celebrated several victories. For the native of Merano, a life without football is as unimaginable as a life without music. Both music and sports provide her with the opportunity to fully focus on the moment and block out everything else.
